Put a Goalpost!

Put a Goalpost!

Kicking a ball in an open field is real fun.

Kicking ball from this end to that end is entertaining, but it uses our energy.

After some time we feel drained out and we may stop kicking the ball.

No doubt, it’s entertaining, but it’s ultimately unfulfilling.

You don’t achieve anything except the pleasure of kicking the ball freely.

How do you measure success or progress from this act?

How do you know how precisely you kick the ball?

How do you know you have sent the ball exactly where it was aimed at?

What is the comparator? What is the yardstick to compare how precisely you kick the ball?

Now, if you put goal posts at either end, the game changes.

Everything is measurable. Everything is comparable.

You have a goal.

You have something to aim for.

You have a purpose.

Similarly, whatever we choose to do with our life, we can do it aimlessly, without any progress or we can install goal posts, which can provide us with a meaningful and challenging goal to aim for.

We have to decide, whether we want to kick the ball aimlessly or we aim to kick into the goal post to achieve something.
