Do we see any organizational benefit out of coaching?

Last year I was Involved in an Executive Coaching assignment with a company. After 6 coaching sessions, 3 hours each, the CEO of a company has called HR Head to take feedback on Coaching.

CEO asked HR head whether Leadership coaching is improving anything because we have to pay balance amount to the Coach. HR Head informed that I have an overall feedback from the participants that they are enjoying the coaching and it’s extremely inspiring for them.

To that reply, CEO questioned – That’s okay, but is the organization is deriving any enterprise-wide benefit or not? HR head got bit baffled and replied, Sir we do not have any process or tool to verify the benefits to the organization.

CEO got annoyed, gave an instruction – Then let us put stop to Coaching, inform the coach that we shall resume once we put our verification system in place.

HR Head replied – okay sir.

The above conversation is in no way exaggerated by any means, it took place perhaps in rather harsh manner than it was informed to me. And yes, next week my plug was pulled out.
